Are you avoiding God's calling?
Because I was.
Last week Lyndon and I went on a walk because I needed to verbally process a few things.
I was feeling pent up and frustrated & couldn’t quite put a pin on what was contributing to it. And when that happens, we go on walks or sit down so I can let it all out.
As we walked I started sharing about how I was so inspired by three women in particular who are incredible business owners who also prioritize their faith on a consistent basis. These women are such role models for me in the way they practice their faith. They pray over launches. Consult God on big and small issues in business. Aren’t afraid to share about their faith or how God is showing up in their lives during their current seasons. And they’re also successful in their businesses. They’ve cultivated beautiful communities, spoken on stages, and created business that support their lifestyle.
I was starting to feel this nudge that we were supposed to do more of the same, particularly within our coaching business. And it was freaking me out.
Two things in particular came up for me when thinking about integrating our faith into coaching:
Praying over our clients again at the beginning of coaching calls (something we used to do and then stopped)
Asking the question: “What do you feel God is calling you to do? Is there something He’s asking you to act on that you’re ignoring or avoiding?” (because all the strategies in the world won’t make a difference if you’re avoiding what God is calling you to do).
But acting on either of those things left me feeling uncertain and nervous.
What if non-faith based business owners no longer felt like they belonged?
What if people expected us to be perfect or held us to a higher-than-realistic standard all because we said we were faith-based? (Lord knows I’m not perfect — I wear crop tops regularly, swear, and don’t agree with everything the church preaches to name a few controversial examples lol)
Lyndon, being my voice of reason and biggest encourager in moments like this, simply asked: “Do you think any of those things about the business owners you just mentioned?”
To which he got a, “…no, I don’t…” response as things began to click into place for me.
By the end of our walk I had come to the conclusion that because of how much resistance I was feeling around it, it probably meant that we were in fact supposed to integrate more of our faith into coaching/business.
And then I completely forgot about our conversation.
Until yesterday, when one of our coaching clients text us this:
And my jaw about fell on the floor.
Because the other piece to this story is last week I was praying for encouragement and clarity around our business. Asking God to align our hearts desires with His. And having zero clue what that actually looked like.
But I fully believe that message was God speaking to us through our client. And I’ve never felt more encouraged and validated in what we’re supposed to do.
I’m still not entirely sure what integrating our faith into business looks like but I think it starts with stories like this. Sharing how He’s showing up in our lives, and being more open about how He’s moving.
I keep thinking about this one line that Meghan Ryan Asbury wrote in her book You are Not Behind (which I just finished & highly recommend):
“Our job is obedience; God’s job is the outcome.”
That about sums up how I feel right now. We don’t have to know the how, our only role is acting in faith on what God is asking us to do here & now.
He’ll take care of the rest. 💕
